Psychiatric evaluations
What happens at a psychiatric evaluation at Shock Therapy Group?
A psychiatric evaluation at Shock Therapy Group is an hour long first appointment with a psychiatric nurse practitioner who learns about you, your history and your symptoms, then works out a diagnosis and a plan with you. It is offered by telehealth anywhere in Indiana or in person in Fort Wayne by appointment.
- Your first appointment is 60 minutes, not a rushed five minute visit.
- We look at your whole life: work, family, past care and what is happening now.
- You leave with real, data driven answers and a plan, which may include medication, therapy or both.
- We see patients age 10 and up.
Questions people ask
How long is the first appointment?
Your first appointment is 60 minutes. Follow ups are 30 minutes.
What ages do you see?
We see patients age 10 and up. We do not offer geriatric psychiatry.
What if I need more support than an outpatient practice gives?
For high acuity conditions such as psychosis, we refer you to larger centers that offer wraparound services, so you get the right level of care.
Do you take my insurance?
We accept Aetna, Ambetter, Anthem, BlueCross and BlueShield, CareSource, Cigna and Evernorth, Hoosier Healthwise, Humana, Medicaid, Medicare, MultiPlan, Optum, UMR and UnitedHealthcare (UHC/UBH), and some others that vary by provider, plus out of network and self pay. Please note that Nicole Courtney does not accept insurance and sees patients on a self-pay basis only. Payment is due on the day of service, by card or HSA.
Can I be seen by video?
Yes. Telehealth is open to anyone in the state of Indiana, by secure, HIPAA-compliant video. In person visits are at our Fort Wayne office, by appointment only.
