Jenna Shock

MSN Ed., APRN, PMHNP-BC
Owner and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Shock Therapy Group
"I'm not here to throw medication at a list of symptoms. I want to get to know you and your world, see all of the contributing factors, and figure out a data-driven plan to help make your world better!"

Hey there, I'm Jenna Shock, owner and provider for Shock Therapy Group, LLC. I’m a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in Northeast Indiana, a wife, a human mom (7 in my Brady Bunch!), a Grandma (Mimi), and a pet mom (4 dogs, 2 cats, and 4 snakes!). I have been a nurse since 2009, working specifically in psychiatry since 2014. I fell in love with the field, and graduated with my post-master's Psychiatric NP certificate in 2019. I have a pretty ridiculous obsession with sharks, enough to get me in a cage under water with Great Whites in South Africa. Set an appointment and we can learn more about each other! DO YOU SEE PATIENTS IN-PERSON? I split my time between virtual and in-person appointments, so please reach out directly if you would like to be seen in-person at my office in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I do see patients from all over the state of Indiana via telehealth as well. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO TAKE AWAY FROM A SESSION WITH ME? The takeaway I hear most often from patients after their initial sessions with me is that for the first time ever, they finally feel heard. Psychiatry is both a science and an art, and I believe in the value of taking the time to find the proper diagnosis and treat the root causes of the symptoms you're experiencing. We'll look at symptoms, situations, triggers, biological markers, and so much more, in an effort to be sure we're thinking about all of the contributors to the issue (and therefore all of the needed solutions). Sometimes that is through medication, sometimes habit changes, nutritional supplementation, sometimes therapy, sometimes combinations of the above. I'll meet you wherever you are in your healing journey and help identify the destination. From then on, you'll never travel alone. WHAT ARE YOUR GREATEST STRENGTHS? I believe my greatest strength lies in my genuine "realness". Like you, I'm a human being navigating this complicated world. Parenting, marriage struggles, special-needs children, past trauma, I understand where you are because I've been there, and I am dedicated to helping you get to where you want to be. I have extensive experience working with adolescents and women, and see patients ages 10+. I'm currently completing a year-long fellowship for Functional and Integrative Psychiatry. Much of our industry treats the brain as though it is not connected to the rest of the body. We know that it is, and that deficiencies or overages in vitamin/mineral levels, thyroid abnormalities, metabolic abnormalities, sleep concerns and gut issues all affect our mental health. The more directions we’re able to attack the problem from, the more effective we’ll be able to be. I work extensively with those who identify in various places on the gender and sexuality spectrums, I will always be a safe space for you. WHAT TREATMENT METHODS AND TOOLS DO YOU UTILIZE? My approach is very individualized to each patient, based on the symptoms you're experiencing and the various root causes involved. I believe medication can be a valuable tool to aid in healing, sometimes temporarily, sometimes long-term, depending on the client. I also believe strongly in the value of therapy in breaking through barriers holding you back. Research and experience tell me that the combination is often where the sweet spot is found. We'll work together to figure out what it is that you may need. Therapy modalities are broad, and again would be heavily tailored to you and your situation. Whole-body approach means we'll focus on your mind, body and spirit through utilization of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma informed therapy, and more. Jenna sees patients via telehealth and in-person at our Fort Wayne, Indiana, office.

I’ve only had one session so far and am so grateful for my appointment with Jenna! After feeling invalidated, pushed off, rushed, etc. by other mental health professionals, I was so worried for this appointment but was majorly relieved by the end of it. I felt heard, validated, and like I can truly trust Jenna with all my mental health needs. You can tell that she loves what she does and has a GENUINE passion to help people. I feel so much hope for my mental health having finally made the switch to see her!

I've spent many years meditating over whether I was ready to see a therapist. That said, I started sessions with Jenna in 2022, despite my reservations. To date, she has been one of the kindest people I have ever met, and has approached our sessions with professionalism and warmth. She has made what felt like a daunting and frightening process simple and truly cathartic. I am glad to have her in my time of need. Some things to know: Jenna's practice is LGBTQIA+ friendly, offers medication management, and specializes in trauma-informed care for clients from a variety of backgrounds. Jenna has been invaluable in guiding me through my struggles associated with Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, PTSD, etc. Jenna allows you to lead the session (No stereotypical "...And how do you feel about that?" banalities). Having worked with Jenna for nearly two years, I can say without a doubt that she is unerringly wonderful; she is one of the best in her industry. I highly recommend.

Before I met Jenna, I was convinced that living in anything other than mental chaos was not an option. For the first time in my life, I found someone who listened, let me get angry, sad, and every other kind of emotion. Jenna also genuinely knows her stuff and has been incredible with helping me find medication that works for me. Jenna is a safe space to heal, I am insanely lucky to have found her.

Not all therapists treat there patients as real humans with real challenges. Some are just another chart with more talk about depression, anxiety etc. Jenna makes it immensely comfortable and she’s an open book about anything you are going through. She’s a major supporter of LGBTQ+ which is a bonus for myself and my wife. Her hours and availability are not just 9-5, and her online scheduling is easy to use. The virtual sessions make an added benefit for busy lives and no matter where you live in the state. Lastly her being able to prescribe my meds and offer me therapy too is wonderful to have wrapped in one provider. Then I know she understands fully where I am coming from! Don’t hesitate, she will be there every step to help with whatever is going on!

I was originally drawn to this provider because of the dad joke, because naming a practice 'Shock Therapy' is kind of genius and I and all of my friends definitely giggled. Anyway, I stayed for the quality of care. This provider is down to earth, and truly wants to help her patients. I did not see her for therapy - I saw her for psychiatry and medication and I always felt confident that she had my best interest in mind. She went the extra mile to make sure that I (and my care team) understood my limitations through testing, and listened to me with an open mind and kindness - and came back with knowledge and help. I am neurodivergent, and part of the LGBTQ+ community, and I know it can be hard to find a good psychiatric care team, and I cannot recommend this practice highly enough.

There are so many people in this world that don’t realize that anxiety and depression are real. I have suffered from these since I was a little girl. 2 years ago I went through the worst trauma and just wanted to end my life. Thanks to my little girl she recommended that I go see her therapist. And I did. That was the greatest thing I’ve ever done in 53 years. Thank you Jenna Shock so much for all the great conversations and therapy you gave me. Jenna is the BEST!!

Jenna has a special knack for listening and truly hearing/caring about what I have to say. She values my opinions and viewpoints about my care. She is straight to the point and works with you to find the right treatment for you, whatever your diagnosis. I've been seeing her for almost 2 years now, and the results mean so much to me. I know there will be peaks and troughs in this crazy life, but I know Jenna will support me.
